Strengthening communities

Community Leadership Program

ECCQ aims to increase self-reliance by supporting aspiring community leaders from new and emerging multicultural communities to increase their leadership capacity.

The 10 week training program covers topics such as leadership and communication skills, advocacy, networking, running meetings, conflict resolution, events management, social media, and more.

ECCQ links participants from new communities with those from more established communities who can share with them their community vision, challenges and strategies in building their community capacity. The participants receive resources and ongoing practical support from ECCQ.

The program is currently offered in Brisbane area, Cairns and Townsville.

Emerging community leaders describe the program as

  • building confidence and wellbeing,
  • sharing connections, inspiration and opportunities
  • providing skills in managing community associations and governance
  • enhancing community development and multiculturalism

“The program taught us how to believe in ourselves… I am the youngest one here and I learned from everyone here sharing stories. I want to do many things for my community and contribute to this country and around the globe. All I know is that something great happened here.” – Sadek
