Multicultural Summit '09

Two world-class keynote speakers, a stimulating debate on multiculturalism with some of Queensland’s most fertile minds let loose, 4 plenary sessions looking back and looking forward, 10 concurrent breakout sessions that stimulated, educated, informed, excited and entertained – in short, that’s our Multicultural Summit ’09 which was held at the State Library of Queensland on Monday, 26 October 2009 and Tuesday, 27 October 2009.  To see photos from the event courtesy of Richard McLaren (of Zouchai.com – email zouchai4@bigpond.net.au) go to our Photo Gallery page.

The central theme of Multicultural Summit ’09 was ‘from Reflection to Rejuvenation’ – Reflection of good practice, unmet needs, policy gaps, program sustainability, achievements; and Rejuvenation of spirit, of policy, of multiculturalism, of practice and programs, of emotion and passion, of identity.

Multicultural Summit ‘09 shaped up to be one of the most exciting and important conferences ever held for Multicultural Queensland.

Our two keynote speakers were world class – Michael Hourigan, criminal lawyer with a passion for human rights came from Adelaide and author, social commentator and radio host Phillip Adams came from Sydney.

We also had a panel discussion with some of Queensland’s most fertile minds debating the controversial topic “Multiculturalism is dead – Long Live Social Inclusion.”

Most importantly, all delegates at the Summit worked towards a meaningful Declaration with impact, based on Summit proceedings and delegate involvement.

The Summit included papers, breakout sessions, panel discussions and presentations by practitioners, teachers and researchers.
